f.r.e.s.h. Turns 3!

f.r.e.s.h. young professionals group closes in on another year of mission focused events that serve to bring awareness to the issue of hunger. From "Helpie Hours" to concerts, their efforts in the past year helped to provide over 93,000 meals.

f.r.e.s.h. young professionals launched in June 2014 to support the mission of the Houston Food Bank. Over these three years the group, led by an 11 person board and 106 socially conscious members, has made a significant impact on the organization. In the last year the f.r.e.s.h. Board and committee members planned 13 events that brought awareness to the issue of hunger, raised funds, and of course, made a difference while being FUN!

One of f.r.e.s.h.’s signature events, the “Helpie Hour” is a combination of volunteering and networking. Participants have the opportunity to volunteer and then enjoy food and drinks in the Lobby. The group logged over 700 volunteer hours this year.

Four of the events focused on educating participants about the mission of the Food Bank. The newest Food for Thought, provided insight on the career trajectories of each speaker and their connection to the Food Bank. Speakers included Brock Wagner, founder of Saint Arnold’s to Brian Greene, CEO and President of the Houston Food Bank.

The group also held a number of socials at various Houston venues and a successful Mardi Gras Gumbo Cook Off in February. To date the group has raised enough money to provide more than 250,000 meals to the hungry in our community.

The Food Bank is thrilled to have these engaged young professionals leading the fight against hunger. To get involved or learn more visit the f.r.e.s.h. webpage!
