Special Guests Help Dedicate New Keegan Kitchen

A special ceremony was held to dedicate Houston Food Bank's new kitchen in memory of Mary Barden Keegan.

Construction was recently completed on the new 10,000 square-foot Keegan Kitchen, now housed within the Food Bank’s headquarters/warehouse. On Thursday, May 11, a special ceremony was held to dedicate the kitchen in memory of Mary Barden Keegan, founder of the End Hunger Network which built the original Keegan Kitchen located off the I-45 freeway. In attendance were The Honorable Sylvester Turner, Mayor of the City of Houston; Michael Keegan, grandson of Mary Barden Keegan; Ben Samuels, HFB board member and chair of the campaign that raised $6.5 million for construction of the kitchen; and Brian Greene, Houston Food Bank president.

Production of nutritious hot meals for delivery to school-aged children at after-school program sites is currently underway, and will be increased in summer as children who rely on free or discounted meals are out of school. The new Keegan Kitchen is custom-designed to reach a capacity of 20,000 nutritious meals per day.
