Another successful Mardi Gras Gumbo Cook-Off for f.r.e.s.h.!

f.r.e.s.h young professionals launched in June 2014 to support the mission of the Houston Food Bank.  The Second Annual Mardi Gras Gumbo Cook-Off is a signature fundraiser for f.r.e.s.h, designed to bring awareness to the issue of hunger and make a difference while having FUN!

On February 18th gumbo cook-off attendees sampled gumbo recipes from 4 different teams and voted for their favorite.  The winning team was Mumbo Gumbo with a recipe featuring crawfish, seafood sausage, onions, and bell pepper.  Three Brothers Bakery donated king cake to highlight the Mardi Gras theme and a silent auction raised extra funds for the Houston Food Bank.

Over 100 attendees helped raise $4,235 at the Mardi Gras Gumbo Cook-Off which equates to over 12,700 meals.  f.r.e.s.h. members will continue to host social, educational, and volunteer events for throughout the year.  Upcoming events include a “Helpie Hour” to volunteer in April, a birthday celebration in June, and the Soundbytes fundraiser in the fall.

The Food Bank is thrilled to have these engaged young professionals leading the fight against hunger. Get involved or learn more about f.r.e.s.h. today!
