Extra prepared food from Super Bowl LI events will be collected for donation.

Super Bowl is predicted to be Houston’s biggest event on record and one of Houston Food Bank’s largest food recovery project, ever.  The festivities will draw tens of thousands of people for more than a week for golf tournaments, youth clinics, concerts, football exhibits, tailgating, parties and celebrity dinners. That doesn’t include the 70,000 people who will pack NRG Stadium for the big game. The impact on the city will be tremendous. With so much activity, the NFL works hard to be responsible stewards of the environment.

What started as a recycling bottles and cans in 1993 has grown into a full-fledged NFL Environmental Program. In partnership with the Houston Food Bank and its partner agencies, the program includes reducing food waste by recovering unused food from the numerous events across town.

Imagine the amount of food that will be prepared to cater parties, dinners and luncheons, and how much won’t be used. The Houston Food Bank along with its partner agencies can use the excess food to help feed those who have no food for their families. In partnership with NFL Green this impact makes a positive economic and social impact in our community. Thanks to partners like you, we will be able to pick up and distribute tens of thousands of pounds of good food that would have otherwise been thrown away. Now that give us something to cheer about.
