Mayors Back 2 School Fest
The Houston Food Bank proudly partnered with the City of Houston for the Mayor's Back 2 School Fest to help kids in need of school supplies.
Kids need the right tools in order to
succeed in school, but many families can't afford the most basic school
supplies, like pencils, crayons and notebooks. The Houston Food Bank proudly
partnered with the City of Houston for the Mayor’s Back 2 School Fest to help
kids in need by assembling backpacks with school supplies.
Volunteers from the University of
Houston, which hosts and sponsors the event, kicked off the assembly project on
Saturday, July 16th. Over 600
volunteers spent their Saturdays donating their time to help assemble
25,000 backpacks full of school supplies. The clear backpacks included an
assortment of supplies such as notebook paper, pencils, glue sticks and more.
At Mayor’s Back 2 School Fest, which was held on
Saturday, August 13th, Houston area students received uniforms, immunizations
and basic school supplies to help them start the school year off on the right
foot. For more information, please visit the Back 2 School Fest webpage at http://www.houstontx.gov/btsf/
