Sysco Joins Forces with the Houston Food Bank

Houston Food Bank is pleased to announce that Sysco Corporation has joined us in “leading the fight against hunger"-Sysco’s first year partnership will enable the Food Bank to acquire 937,500 pounds of produce or the equivalent of 25 tractor/trailer loads of fresh fruits and vegetables for people in need. The distribution of produce is a key component of HFB’s nutritious food distribution strategy and a gift at this level will ensure that HFB is able to keep the expense involved in getting the produce to our facility as low as possible, confirming that the maximum amount of produce is made available to the community through food fairs, neighborhood centers and mobile pantries.

"The Houston Food Bank is grateful to Sysco for their continued commitment to the fight against hunger in Houston, and for their recent donation of money and resources specifically geared to providing more nutritious produce to those in need," says Brian Greene, Houston Food Bank President/CEO. "Because our clients don’t have regular access to healthy, nutritious fruits and vegetables, Sysco's focus on produce with their recent donation is of the utmost importance, and will help Houston Food Bank remain a leader among the nation’s food banks in the distribution of fresh produce.  This commitment by Sysco sets an example in the community on how to truly impact the lives of those in need. Thank you for this partnership and engagement."
