SHSU SNAP and HFB

SNAP event at SHSU 2016

The HFB team also brought a mobile unit filled with more than 10,000 pounds of fresh produce and bread. Students wereSHSU 2 edited.jpg able to choose from items such as cauliflower, squash and lettuce.  Each person was provided with a bag that could be filled with the items they chose, which is also called “Client Choice”.  This is the third such event to be held on the campus and the goal is to hold the event once a semester.  More than 200 students attended the event and 16 applied for the SNAP program.

The SHSU Food Pantry operates out of the Episcopal Student Center and provides free food to students who are struggling to make ends meet.  The food they distribute comes from individual and corporate donations.  The council that runs the pantry is made up of students, under the direction of a student advisor.

HFB is proud to support to SHSU efforts to combat hunger on their campus. Go Bearkats!
