Produce Quality
In general, up to 20% of the produce you receive may need to be discarded by your agency. If your order has a higher percentage of unacceptable quality, the Food Bank will refund or replace it.
Reporting Process Quantity and quality differences must be reported on delivery. Ask your driver for an “Over, Short and Damage” form. You have 30 days from the invoice date to dispute price discrepancy. Use the 80-20 rule: If more than 20% of the produce in this bin must be discarded, please notify the Houston Food Bank and we will refund or replace it.
Food Bank's Training Our staff has received and will continue to receive annually produce training from experts/professionals in the produce industry to ensure we maintain standards committed to you.
Agency Training Please see this Produce Handling Toolkit as a guide when dealing with donated produce. Resources will also be available on our website. We are committed to addressing produce education one-on-one with site visits. And the Food Bank will also discuss Produce Handling annually at the Agency Conference in September.
Questions or concerns Please call 832-369-9390 or your Agency Services Representative.
