BUILD Health ChallengeOn June 9th, the Houston Food Bank was awarded the BUILD Health Challenge Implementation Grant. The BUILD Health Challenge was created to engage community partnerships amonglocal non-profit organizations, hospitals and health systems, and health departments to improve the health and well-being of their residents. Our winning proposal is aimed to Improve Health through a Sustainable Food System in north Pasadena. Collaborating with Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services(HCPHES), and The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, the two-year pilot project will develop a community-supported food system to reduce obesity and improve obesity- related health outcomes. Our mission is to eliminate the conditions that cause food insecurity by launching a new food system that is healthy, sustainable, affordable, accessible, and community-supported. This BUILD Health collaboration is one of many for the Houston Food Bank’s Food for Change initiative, which seeks to use food as a catalyst for sustainable change in the lives of our clients. |
