Summer Hunger: Find a meal site

When school is dismissed for summer, those children who depend daily on a free school breakfast and lunch lose access to those meals. The Houston Food Bank along with school districts and other non profit agencies work with the Texas Department of Agriculture to provide free meals to children living in economically disadvantaged areas. A site participating serves a free breakfast, lunch and snack for all of the children in their area.  All meals provided to the children include fruit, vegetables, grains and a good source of protein. Children will receive a hot lunch filled with comfort foods that are very nutritious. The Houston Food bank provides meals to community centers, WIC clinics, schools, YMCA’s and Boys and Girls Clubs.

Families can call the Houston Food Bank call center at 832-369-9390 to find a serving site near their home that is open to the public for a child 18 and under to receive a free meal. The children are not required to be enrolled in school or a program to receive a meal and no ID is required.
