Houston is really showing support in raising awareness around the issue of hunger, thank you. To bring awareness to the important issue of hunger, the Houston Food Bank and hunger relief agencies across the country have designated September as Hunger Action Month. Here in Houston, the theme for the month is HUNGER BITES, BITE BACK, which has a double meaning plus a call to action: 1. Hunger is a bad thing; 2. that it has a painful, biting effect on those who suffer from it; and we can all “bite back” by taking action to help our neighbors in need.
The official awareness color of hunger is orange.
Check out all the activity on our social media pages:
Twitter is @houstonfoodbank and Facebook is The Houston Food Bank Official Page. You will see the hashtags #hungeraction and #hungerbites. Feel free to use HFB cannot express how important volunteers are to the organization being able to complete its mission to feed the hungry – they provide approximately 5,300 hours of service to our organization each week! City Hall was lit orange last week and Mayor Parker got a great picture and kindly shared it on Twitter (see photo).
Just remember, the month isn’t over yet so please get involved anyway you can! Visit http://www.houstonfoodbank.org/hungerbites/
