Summer is a season of great need for the Houston Food Bank. With many children out of school, families are faced with tough decisions during the summer – purchasing groceries or paying the utility bills. KHOU-11 is once again partnering with the Food Bank to conduct a summer food drive to support families struggling to put food on the table while school is out. The food drive began Monday, July 7, and will continue until Sunday July 20.

To contribute to the KHOU-11 Summer Food Drive, simply drop your non-perishable food donation into one of the Red Barrels located in over 250 local grocery stores, or bring your donation directly to the Houston Food Bank on or before July 20. You can also bring your donations to the KHOU-11 studio during its live donation day on Friday, July 18 from 6am-6pm.

In 2013, a total of 218,153 nutritious meals were provided to the community through this event. The food donated provided 181,794 of these nutritious meals and monetary donations provided 142,027 meals. The Houston Food Bank’s sponsors provided an additional 150,000 nutritious meals to the community.
